New Cast Member
Announcement – there is a new Elsa and Anna! Caissie Levy and Patti Murin are passing on the mantle of Elsa and Anna to Ciara Renee and McKenzie Kurtz as Elsa and Anna, respectively. The change of roles is expected to take effect on February 18, 2020.
You might remember Ciara Renee as the lead in Broadway’s Pippin or as The Witch in Big Fish. She has also featured in Tick, Tick…Boom! and The Wrong Man, where she showcased her talent.
McKenzie Kurtz’s role as Anna is her first Broadway performance, but she has cemented a name for herself in regional productions such as Footloose. Other members of the cast include Noah J. Ricketts (Kristoff) and Chad Burris (Olaf) who resume their roles, and Ryan McCartan (Prince Hans) who replaces Joe Carroll.
Frozen is one of the few narratives that have garnered a near-cultic following – and it’s easy to see why. Since taking the box office by storm back in 2013 and Frozen tour, the story of Elsa and Anna has captivated children and adults alike. Unsurprisingly, the stage adaptation of the film seems to carry on the legendary status of its predecessor.
All this is partly attributed to catchy songs such as “Let it Go” that echoed throughout our households for years – and we have the composing team of Robert and Kristin Anderson Lopez to thank.
The talented duo actually won an Academy Award for the songs they crafted for Frozen. Other members of the creative team include Michael Grandage (director), Rob Ashford (choreographer), and Jennifer Lee, who wrote the film and adapted her screenplay for the musical.
